With five days to get from Bozeman (for a wedding) to Missoula (for a family vacation), I decided to make a little gravel bikepacking trip out of it.
Seven years ago, I rode my bike across most of Montana as I began my ride across the country. This ride would allow me to see some more of the state.
My goal was to stay on dirt, gravel, and single track for as much of the ride as possible. I had no idea how far it would be, which roads I would take, how much elevation I'd gain, or where I'd go. But I knew I'd be alone, I'd end up in Missoula, and my butt would hurt. A lot.
